SONGS FOR CHILDREN Educational Songs and Activities for Kids age 2 to 9 |
The Magnets Workshop occurs as follows:Suzee burst into the room singing the Hello Song.Suzee and the children sing Teeny Weeny ElectronsT and recall what they learned about electrons last time. Suzee and the children sing Opposites Attract Suzee asks the children if they can think of anything else in which opposites attract. Suzee says Magnets are special because metal sticks to magnets. She asks the children how they could find metal in the room. She gives them each a bar magnet to go find metal. Using a horseshoe magnet tied to a fishing pole the children fish for metal in a large cardboard box. Suzee demonstrates the poles by burying a bar magnet in paper clips. The children play with bar magnets, pushing and pulling with the poles. Suzee sings Magnetized! She then demonstrates the magnetic field using iron filings. The children magnetize paper clips by rubbing them on the magnets. They then draw race cars on paper, cut them out and attach a paper clip to the back. We then race the cars running back and forth along a paper track using a magnet that acts through the paper. We discuss what electrons do in the magnetic field. The children pretend to be electrons and demonstrate the way electrons behave in a magnetic field. The children make a fridge magnet for their mom. We discuss the earth’s magnetic field. Suzee sings We Can Travel Anywhere. The children make themselves a compass using a cork, a nail and an ice cream bucet of water. Suzee says goodbye and sings So Long Song. The children leave with a racing car, a fridge magnet and a compass. |
