SONGS FOR CHILDREN Educational Songs and Activities for Kids age 2 to 9 |
The Teeny Weeny Electrons Workshop occurs as follows:Suzee burst into the room singing the Hello Song.Speaking words in nonsensical order she explains that words can communicate ideas. Suzee then sings Wonderful Words Suzee says With words, we can talk about things we can not even see. She asks the kids to name things we have words for, but can't see. One such thing is electricity. Suzee sings What's Electricity? She then asks the children to list electrically powered objects. The children and Suzee sing Wheels on the Bus. Suzee says, Electricity is the flow of electrons, usually through a wire. The children repeat Electricity is the flow of electrons. Suzee sings Teeny Weeny Elelctrons She has a volunteer come up and using balloons and confetti, demonstrates the presence of electrons. The children join Suzee in singing the chorus of Teeny Weeny Electrons. We discuss the difference between the tiniest piece of gold and the tiniest piece of silver. We discuss that light does NOT have electrons. Using two balloons of the exact same colour, shape and size, Suzee demonstrates electrostatic attraction and repulsion. Suzee sing Opposites Attract. The children learn and sing the chorus with Suzee. The children play a sort of Tag which demonstrates electrostatic attraction and repulsion. The children each get their own balloon and, using balloons, discover which materials stick to the charged balloons. They cut out shapes from the different materials creating faces on the balloons. We are sure to include rubber bands so the children can see that rubber does not conduct electricity. We also discuss that the electrons will leave the balloon at some point but that by rubbing it on their hair, they can restore the electric charge and remake the puppet faces. Suzee says sings So Long Song and leaves. The children leave with their puppet faces. |
