SONGS FOR CHILDREN
Educational Songs and Activities for Kids age 2 to 9

The H2O Workshop occurs as follows:

Suzee burst into the room singing the Hello Song. She suggests they sing a song everybody knows so they all sing Row Row Row your boat. She asks the kids where boats are used. We determine boats are used on the water.

Suzee has the kids tell her what happens to water at the various temperatures. She demonstrates how water behaves in the different states with respect to their containers. Together, they define liquids, solids and gases.

The children compare apple juice and H2O in both solid and liquid states. We discuss molecules. We note that there are 600 billion trillion molecules of H2O in one tablespoon of water.

Suzee sings H2O.

We tear a piece of aluminum foil until it is as tiny as we can make it. We learn that a molecule is the tiniest bit of something that is still that thing. We discuss how the molecules behave in the various states. We note liquid has a tendency to stay together and gaseses have a tendency to fly apart...

Then we pretend we are water molecules and as Suzee yells out various temperatures, the children demonstrate how the molecules behave at those temperatures.

Using first water and apple juice then frozen apple juice cubes and ice cubes, the children attempt to mix liquids and solids. Using an eyedropper we note that food colouring is a liquid and mixes in water but just sort runs off the solid ice cube. Suzee sings Drip Drop. We talk about cycles and circles. We make clay figures with and without parachutes. We see which falls faster and discuss what that tells us about air.

We talk about the only thing that is not a liquid, solid or gas – light!

Suzee sings We Can Make A rainbow.

If it is sunny we make a rainbow using water from a hose and the sun. If not, we use a prism and the light from the window.

Suzee sings The Miracle of Water

Using the eye dropper we drop a drop of water on wax paper and notice it forms a drop.

We add salt to water. We notice that it disappears We discuss the shape of water and why it is such a good solvent.
We sing Itsy Bitsy Spider and talk about evaporation.

We make Invisible Paintings with the salt water.

Suzee says goodbye and sings So Long Song.

When the Invisible paintings dry and appear, the children leave with their Invisible Paintings and their clay figures with and without parachutes.
